Taking Care of Your Furry Friends While You Are Away

About Us

The Owner : Maureen My Story

My first Dog:

I grew up with my mom and sister in Huntington Beach CA. We lived in an apartment and couldn't have a dog ( but that didn't keep me from begging for one, constantly) so we rescued a calico cat named Tiffany. She was super sweet and when you petted her she would drool  like crazy and give you love nibbles. We added to our family of cats over the years, and I loved them all but I never gave up on getting a dog. When I was 18 I moved out on my own and one of the first things I did was buy Bearon. He was a Chow Chow that I couldn't afford and I had to finance him from the pet store ( looking back I can't believe I  bought a pet from the pet store and financed a dog!!) Bearon being my first dog I'm sure I made plenty of mistakes but he loved me anyway. He was with me through many moves and many of my life's most important moments. He had such a profound impact on my life that I have a painting of him (that my husband had commissioned ) hanging over my fireplace more than 30 years later. We've rescued plenty of animals since Bearon and now have 3 rescue dogs, a cat, a horse and two pot belly pigs but Bearon will always hold a special place in my heart.

How Paws On Pet Sitting started:

As a kid I wanted to be a vet but didn't have the money or confidence to follow through with that dream. I worked in the service industry as a waitress and bartender for many years but also volunteered with different animal groups like Friends of the Sea Lion and The Humane Society. When Jeff and I decided to have a family I was lucky to be able to stay home with all 3 of our kids. In 2008 when our youngest son started kindergarten I was trying to figure out what I would do now that the kids wouldn't be home all day. One of my girlfriends had started her own pet sitting business and she encouraged me to do the same. I thought it sounded like the perfect job. I could use my customer service background to interact with clients and I had years of animal experience with my volunteer work and all our own pets, Thus Paws On Pet Sitting was born.

I knew being an animal lover wasn't enough to run a premier pet care company so I've taken many animal behavior courses, pet nutrition classes, business marketing courses and Pet CPR training over the years to provide the best possible experience for our pet clients.
